Song Fa Bak Kut Teh @ Clarke Quay

Clarke Quay is usually known for its night life where people go there for drinks but a Bak Kut Teh shop is just around the corner. Song Fa had been pretty well known and its usually crowded during lunch / dinner hours.

I went there during dinner time so there was a bit of waiting time. Upon arriving the waitress will pass the menu and take your orders before you have a seat.

In less then 5 mins our food started arriving. It comes all at one go and payment comes straight after.

Bak Kut Teh which is flavorful soup brewed with pork ribs / other organs , garlic , pepper and herbs. We had the Pork Rib Soup ($6.50) which is their normal and best seller. There is also other selection like the Pig's Kidney Soup , Pig's Liver Soup etc. The soup is definitely addictive, luckily its unlimited top up of soup.

We had some side dishes. Ground Nuts and You Tiao. My favorite way to eat the You Tiao is to soak it in the soups and then eat it. Crispy and soft in the inside with soup coming out from it with every bite.

Braised Pig's Trotter ($8.50) is the best!! Tender meat with the sauce. Yum yum! I don't really enjoy the fats but according to two of my friend that I went with, the fats was the best and its always what makes them come back (apart from the prok ribs soup)

They have two location which is pretty much near each other. It goes like Outlet 1 then a shop then Outlet 2. The difference is that one have air-con and tad bit smaller while the other don't and its a bit bigger. Personally I have only been to the one with air-con. It so duper hot, it will only be reasonable to go to the one with air conditional isn't it? Hahaha
The two outlet act separately in a way that if you are queuing for seats in Outlet 1 and Outlet 2 have vacancy, you would still have to wait for seats vacancy in Outlet 1 unless you leave the queue and head to Outlet 2.

Paris Baguette @ JEM

Paris Baguette the famous bakery that sounds like it is a French bakery but turns out its actually one of the top bakery in Korea.

So lucky for the west side people as Paris Baguette open its second outlet ( First outlet at Wisma Atria) at newly open JEM mall. Weeeeheeeeee for me
I love how they display mostly their products and thats the way you need to pass by to make order and payment. Seriously everything look so good and I usually want to try everything!

The first time I went, I tried out mostly things that are displayed. Lets just say I was so super duper disappointed. The prices are pretty expensive and the taste wasn't really there.
BUT
I was so glad I went back to try out the things in their menu. It was Y-U-M-M-Y. I mean seriously I was so super upset during the first trip at the taste, the price and we had to wait 15 mins to get a sit. Oh its free seating so if there is a lot of people, if there are many people waiting too, kinda need to snatch the table when somebody finally leave.

Came here to try the menu item but as I was passing by the display, this caught my eyes. Queen's Muffin ($3.50) It is actually blueberry muffin with a crust and blueberry jam with pieces of blueberry on top. Great buy! It was really moist and there were blueberry at the bottom part of the muffin too. The jam was not too overwhelming and it went great with the plain vanilla cake part. Having those chunks of blueberry popping adds texture and flavor. Yum yum! Plus the price is pretty ok also.

After payment, they will send anything that is ordered from the menu to you.

This is the Mango Latte ($9.00) which is found at the "Fresh Fruit Juice" section at the menu. It is freshly made mango puree mixed with milk. As you guessed, mango puree and milk would taste totally good, looks pretty too.

The item that made me revive all my hopes on Paris Baguette arrived! This their PB Style Homemade Dynamite Burger ($17.00) This is a legit 9 layers burger. First you get the top bread, a layer of sauce that taste similar to BBQ sauce but the milder version, super crispy onion ring pieces, strip of bacon, melted cheese, beef patty that is super juicy, tomato, cabbage, bottom bun. Wedges served on the side with chili sauce on a saucer.
WHATTT?!
One great burger isn't it?! Quite big portion so it would be alright for two. Not totally full but filled.

Definitely cannot forget to talk about their Royal Pudding which is why everybody is talking about Paris Baguette. The right is the Original one and the left is the Mango one. They have a lot of flavors but except for the original one, the other flavors varies everyday. Really creamy and smooth and a thin layer or caramel sauce at the bottom of the bottle. Its really good but I personally think its a bit expensive. Its $4.00 for the original and $4.50 for the other assorted flavors if I didn't remember wrongly. Still, its worth a try!

The outlet at JEM have lesser seats than Wisma Atria. I try to avoid going at peak hour so that there will be seats available. They have Korean employees that might be a bit slow in taking your orders during payment, so kinda be patience with them and check your change just in case.

Tofu wrapped in Bacon Strips

Recipe #2

I cook pretty often, like maybe more then twice every week so I always watch Youtube video to have more ideas on what to try out. This time I found this recipe that only need two main ingredient!

Main Ingredient
Silken Tofu (preferably the one that state "ideal for frying" on the package)
Bacon strips
Flour ( I use all purpose flour)
Oil for pan frying

This is probably the most time consuming things to do because in order for the tofu to be fried up a little better, we need to drain the excess water out of it.
Remove the tofu from the packaging, wrap it with kitchen paper ( those tissue that are thicker and rougher ) , put it on a mesh strainer and put something heavy to give it some pressure. Leave it for 15 mins to half hour

I have limited bacon strips on hand so I slice mime into 6 pieces. It is quite thick in size but that's fine for me.

Now comes the fun part! Row the tofu piece in one bacon strip. Need to be a little gentle here so that the tofu won't break apart.

Lay it in one layer and dust flour to both side of the pieces. The flour will create a thin layer of crust.
Flour going everywhere :/ A little messy but that's fine, gonna be yummlicious /thumbs up/

Time to pan fry! I use about 1 tablespoon of oil. Wait for a few minutes for the oil to be hot before putting the pieces in.

Flip it when the side turned golden brown! Yeah one piece kinda broke here :( but all is good , I get to eat that piece hehehe

All done!! Ingredients are as simple as 1 2 3. I ate it with shredded cabbage and slice tomato but can definitely eat this with white rice or noodles because the bacon makes it a little on the salty side.

Next time I would probably let the bacon go for a little longer because the "fats" on the bacon haven't really crisp up yet.
Most probably I might use those thinly slice pork used for steamboat instead of bacon to make this a little healthier.

Lady M @ Marina Square

Lady M Confections is famous for their Mille Crepe Cake. Origins from New York, this is the one and only outlet in Singapore. They pretty much serve mostly dessert.

Interior design is white and simple giving a very clean and classy look.

The cakes are all displayed behind this glass panel. Something unique is that most of their cakes are not cut. Only when there is an order, they then slice a piece.

As a banana lover, I had to order the Banana Mille Feuille ($8.00 / slice ). A layer of vanilla sponge cake, golden puff pastry, whipped cream and BANANAS

Strawberry Mille Feuille ($8.00 / Slice ) perfect layer of puff pastry , whipped cream and fresh strawberries.

The famous Lady M® Mille Crêpes ($7.50 / Slice ). Layers of crepes piled above one another with light pastry cream in between.

Tarte a la Mangue ($7.50 / Slice ) which is passion fruit curd above shortbread crust and topped with freshly cut mango. This kinda reminds me of Carpenter and Cook Meringue passion fruit tart.

Overall, this is a place that served most of the desserts that are filled with cream like taking a bite is filled with 3 quarter of cream. I am not really a fan of cream so I have to admit that I am a little disappointed at the taste. If I were to go back, I will most probably try dessert that don't have the "a layer of whipped cream" in the description. If I am a cream lover, I would like the Mille Crepes and the Banana Mille Feullie
